## Article

Etsy doesn't allow embedded customisers inside a listing. The way to give buyers a real-time design experience is to point them to your Customiser Link from the listing description, then have them return to Etsy with their design details to place the order.

## Before you start

You need three things in place:

1. A customiser created for the Etsy product.

2. **Etsy** connected from **Integrations**. See [Etsy integration](../../integrations/14673825-etsy-mode/).

3. **Customiser Link** enabled for this customiser. See [Customiser Links](../../integrations/hosted-customisers/) for setup steps.

## Get your Customiser Link

1. In the Sign Customiser admin, open the Customiser Links page.

    - **Universal**: left sidebar → **Your Store** → **Hosted Customisers**.

    - **Shopify**: home page → **Tools & Settings** → **Link to your Customiser**.

2. Find your customiser under **Compatible Customisers**.

3. Copy the URL shown next to the customiser name. It will look like `https://app.signcustomiser.com/hosted/123`.

## Add the link to your Etsy listing

1. Sign in to Etsy and open **Shop Manager** → **Listings**.

2. Open the listing you want the Customiser Link on, or click **Add a listing**.

3. Scroll to the **Description** field.

4. Paste your Customiser Link near the top of the description, on its own line, with a short call to action so buyers know to click it. For example:

<div class="intercom-interblocks-callout" style="background-color: #e3e7fa80; border-color: #334bfa33;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Design your sign first:</b></p><p class="no-margin">https://app.signcustomiser.com/hosted/123</p><p class="no-margin">Use the link above to choose your text, font, colour and size. When you're happy, copy the design summary and return to this listing to check out.</p></div>

5. Click **Publish** (or **Save** if you're editing a live listing).

## Why put the link near the top

Etsy truncates long descriptions on mobile and shows a "Read more" link. Most buyers never tap it. Putting your Customiser Link in the first two or three lines means more buyers actually open the customiser before deciding to buy.

## What buyers see

1. They click your Customiser Link from the Etsy listing.

2. They design their sign in the customiser.

3. When they're done, they see a summary screen with the design details (text, font, colour, size, and the suggested price if you've enabled **Show price**).

4. They copy the summary and click **Return to Etsy**, which sends them back to the listing URL you saved in the customiser's Etsy listing settings.

5. They paste the summary into the personalisation or buyer note field on Etsy and check out.

<div class="intercom-interblocks-callout" style="background-color: #feedaf80; border-color: #fbc91633;"><p class="no-margin"><b>Important</b></p><p class="no-margin">Make sure the <b>Etsy listing URL</b> in the customiser's <b>Etsy listing settings</b> points at the same listing the buyer started on. If you have multiple listings, each customiser only sends buyers back to one URL.</p></div>

## Troubleshooting

**The link shows a 404.** Etsy isn't connected, or the Customiser Link isn't enabled. Open **Integrations** and connect Etsy, then open the Customiser Links page (Universal: **Your Store** → **Hosted Customisers**; Shopify: **Tools & Settings** → **Link to your Customiser**) and enable the link for that customiser.

**The link is too long for the description.** The Customiser Link is short by design (around 40 characters). If you want something even shorter, you can wrap it with a URL shortener like Bitly, but Etsy buyers generally trust the full link more.

**Buyers aren't pasting the design details into Etsy.** Add a one-line instruction next to the link, for example: "After designing, paste the summary into the personalisation box at checkout."
