Customise
How to make Sign Customiser fit into your store theme
Show a different background for each size
Link each preset size to its own scene background, so the customer customiser shows a different background when the customer changes the size.
Set a real size for the built-in background and use scenes in product images
Give the built-in blue/grey background a real width so signs scale against it, and show the customer's chosen background in the cart and order product image.
Set the Sign area for each background image
Place a Sign area on a background image so the customer customiser shows the sign in that box.
Real size view
Show the sign next to a 170 cm person at the same scale.
Selected colour CSS variables
Mirror the colours a shopper picks in the customiser into your own storefront styling using the --sign-selected-colour CSS variables.
Custom CSS
Use css to create your own styles for Sign Customiser
Vertical text orientation
Let customers stack each character on its own line, lock a customiser to one orientation, or set a default orientation for languages that read top to bottom.
Default text alignment
Sign Customiser allows you to change the default text alignment presented on the visualiser for user-input text inputs. You can show or hide all the text alignment options the user can select.
Option Number List
You can now automatically generate a list of options for your customiser that are numbered. This is useful for when you have a large number of options and you want to make it easier for your customers to understand the order of the options.
Editor Modes
Control the text editor and decide whether supported customisers can accept characters that a selected font cannot draw.
Theme Colour Reference Guide
This guide shows how to change the colours of your Sign Customiser. You can change the buttons, labels and backgrounds in the admin. You do not need to write CSS code. To change the colours of a customiser: Go to the Sign Customiser admin: Universal accounts: Go to Home in your account. Shopify users: In the Shopify admin, go to Apps and open the app. Select Customisers in the menu. Select the customiser you want to change. In the menu on the left, select Theme Colours. The next paragraph says where it is. Select a colour field. Use the colour picker to set the colour you want. Select Submit to save your changes. The place of Theme Colours depends on the width of the admin content area. This is the area to the right of the navigation. If the admin content area is 1200 px wide or more, the menu has the heading Customiser Menu, and Theme Colours is under Settings. If the admin content area is less than 1200 px wide, the menu has no Customiser Menu heading, and Theme Colours is the last item under Features. If the admin content area is less than 799 px wide, the menu opens from a Menu button. You can also type "Theme Colours" in the Search menu items... box. Reset to Defaults is also on this page. It puts the default colours in the form. Select Submit to save them. Some advanced elements are not in the Theme Colours section. To change these elements, use CSS. This guide shows how to add CSS code correctly: Custom CSS.
Options sidebar position - desktop only
Display the options sidebar on the left or right, option only available for desktop.
Custom Design Tab
Choose when the Custom tab shows on your customiser, and add a link to an external page for custom designs.
Mobile Style Options
Choose how the customer customiser presents its options on mobile. Every customiser can use either Stacked all at once or One Selection at a Time. In the merchant admin, open your customiser and go to Settings > General Settings > Mobile Style Options.
Centimetres/Inches measurement display
Choose which units shoppers see on your customiser: centimetres, inches, or both
Font display options
Except for lightbox face text, you can show the sidebar font list in two ways. You can show all fonts at once. Or you can show them behind a dropdown button. Lightbox face text always shows all fonts. We recommend the dropdown if you have many fonts. It reduces vertical scroll. The customiser loads each font preview when it comes into view. If you show all fonts, customers can choose a font without opening a list. The first image shows the dropdown. The second image shows the fonts in a grid.
Price display on first load
Select how to display the price on the customiser, useful for marketing such as Google products.
Set the product title and main product image
How to set the product title and the main product image that the cart and the order use

Scene Editor
Formally called background images - how to control the scene that the signs display on.
Visually scale signs for size dimensions
You can give the visualiser the appearance of the sign getting bigger or smaller relative to the size the customer has chosen. This setting does not change lightbox signs. Follow these steps to enable this feature: Go to the Sign Customiser admin. Select the customiser that you want to edit. From the left-hand menu, go to Features → Scene Editor - Background Images. Enable Scale visualisation with size. This setting is part of some plans. On a plan that does not include it, the checkbox is not available and the admin asks you to upgrade. To upgrade, go to Your Company → Billing. In the Shopify admin, open the app and select Subscription/Credit in the app menu. The checkbox is also not available while Enable Dragging, Enable Scaling or Enable Rotation is on. These options are on the Drag, Scale, Rotate page in the Features menu. Turn off all three first. Click Save. For signs other than lightbox, the visualiser now grows and shrinks the sign relative to the smallest and largest size.
Review Screen
You can choose to let your customers review their custom sign before it is added to the cart. This review screen also displays a summary of the selected options. This guide will show you how to enable this feature and where to customise the text displayed on the review screen.
Decimal Format for Measurements
Choose With Decimal or No Decimal for Decimal Format of Measurements in General Settings.
Change A Font's Line Height / Line Spacing
Change the line height of a font to adjust the space between lines of text in a customiser.
Languages and translation
Languages in Sign Customiser
Use one customiser for multiple shopper languages, manage each translation as a draft, and publish the right version across Shopify and Universal.
Add, translate, preview and publish a language
Add a shopper language, translate it manually or with an AI-assisted first draft, preview it privately, and publish it when it is ready.
Choose the customiser language on Shopify and Universal
Set up one multilingual customiser and control how Shopify and Universal choose a published shopper language.
Translate option names, colours, fonts and sizes
Edit source option wording on its own page, then translate the shopper-visible value without changing pricing or production data.
Translate custom forms
Translate custom form fields, choices, guidance and submission messages while leaving shopper answers unchanged.
Translate the review screen
Translate the final design review, its actions, selected-option headings and supporting information.
Translate cart and order details
Understand which translated labels reach products, carts, orders and fulfilment, and why later edits do not rewrite old orders.
Use right-to-left languages
Enable right-to-left layout separately from translation on Shopify and Universal, then test the live integration and font coverage.

This feature is only available on Shopify for now.
Adding CSS to Shopify themes - Alternative (but Not Recommended) Method
Although editing your Shopify theme is an alternative method for applying CSS, it is no longer the recommended approach. This method allows you to keep your styles within your theme, but it may require reapplication after theme updates. For the recommended approach to adding custom CSS, please refer to the guide: How to Add Custom CSS the Right Way.

Automatically Deleting Generated Products in WordPress
The Sign Customiser generates products so that customers can purchase their customised designs. This step is essential and cannot be skipped. However, we understand that having these auto-generated products in your product list can become overwhelming. This guide will show you how to automatically delete these products using the WP Bulk Delete Pro plugin. WP Bulk Delete is a third-party tool and is not affiliated with Sign Customiser. Use it with caution and at your own risk.
How SEO is treated for Custom Signs in WordPress
The custom signs created by our app are automatically hidden from all WooCommerce categories and product pages. They also contain a meta tag that excludes them from SEO indexing. These settings are applied automatically when a product is created by our app, and no additional action is required on your end.

Sign Customiser has three unique behaviours that can occur after a product has been added to the cart. Option 1: Straight to cart Redirects user to the cart page Option 2: Straight to checkout Redirects customer to the checkout page Option 3: Cart Window or custom integration: Use this when you want your mini-cart, slide out cart to open after the product has been added to cart. Most themes mini-carts and slide-out carts will work when this option is enabled. If the mini-cart or slide-out cart does not show then you can create a javascript event listener for our custom event.

Currency conversion
Convert all prices in a customiser by a currency rate.
Drag, Scale, Rotate Words and Icons
Give your customers the ultimate design freedom when creating custom letter signs by empowering them to drag, scale and rotate words and icons. This feature allows the following designs to be made possible. Independent word sizing: The ability to change the size of each word independently so you can truly customise the design. Independent word layout/location: Drag each word around independently to various locations rather than restricting it to a per-line basis. Word layer priority: Similar to design programs like photoshop/illustrator, you could have words stacking and overlapping, and your customer can choose which word is in front and which word is behind. This feature is only available for stores that are subscribed to non-legacy plans.
Google Fonts
Use the Google font picker to add a font from the Google font library to your customiser. You do not need a font file.
Icons in Sign Designs
The Icons feature allows you to upload SVG graphics that customers can add to their sign designs. These icons can be used alongside text to create personalised and visually engaging signs. This guide explains how to upload icons and how customers can access them.
Multi-colour / Multi-font sign designs
Multi-colour and multi-font signs let customers use more than one colour or font in the same sign. Most sign types support this feature. The admin menu does not show the setting for Lightbox, Metal Cut-Out and Stencil customisers.
Multi-Currency
Multi-currency lets customers see prices in their preferred currency. You can set it up with a currency switcher app or with Shopify Markets. We recommend Shopify Markets. To accept payments in multiple currencies, Shopify Markets needs Shopify Payments or Adyen. On 8 November 2023, Sign Customiser announced support for two currency apps. They are Vitals and Beast Currency Converter. The announcement called the second app Best Currency Converter. This guide shows how to set up Markets or one of the apps. It also shows how to choose how the customiser shows the currency.
Quote Mode
Quote Mode replaces add to cart with a quote form. The customer designs the sign and sees the live preview. Then the customer sends the design to your team for review. The customer does not pay at this time. By default, the customer does not see the price. To show the suggested price to the customer, turn on Show suggested price. Sign Customiser saves each request under Quotes in your admin. To see the full details, select the blue quote number and form name. The quote details page has a Download Quote button. This button saves the quote as a PDF. The designated inbox also receives these items: the form answers of the customer the selected sign options the preview images The inbox receives the suggested price only when Show suggested price is on. The email also includes a download link to an SVG file when SVG generation is on and the design supports it. When Send a confirmation email to my customer is turned on, the customer also gets an email after the customer submits a quote. To set up this email, go to Email Workflows → Customer Confirmation Email in the customiser. Quote Mode stops at the quote request. It does not create a paid order. It does not send the manufacturer order email. Your team reviews the request and confirms the final price. Then your team invoices the customer through your usual process. Use Quote Mode when customers do the first design themselves, but a person must check some details before you accept the order. These details can be feasibility, shipping, installation or a bespoke production detail.
Sign Presets
Sign Presets allows you to save any customiser configuration as a reusable starting design. This makes it easy to showcase popular designs, promote designs, or provide ready-made options that can be customised further. This guide will show you how to create a preset and display it on your website.

Backboard shapes: Why Are "Fill" Attributes Important for Your SVG Files?
Use "fill" attributes in the SVG files you add to the customiser. Do not use "stroke" attributes. This guide explains why. It also shows what happens to icons and custom backboard shapes when an SVG file uses strokes, and how to correct the file.
Mountings
Mountings
Display mounting options for the backboards The mounting feature allows you to add various mounting options for your backboards. Mountings are supplementary costs, not base pricing. Mounting fees (one-time or percentage) are added on top of the base sign price. To configure your primary pricing, go to Core Setup → Pricing. For product-specific pricing per component, see Letter Types or Lightbox Types under Sign Components. Note: only the "Board" backboard type visually displays mountings in the visualiser. Follow this guide to configure mountings for your customiser.
Restrict mounting options
You can prevent customers from selecting a mounting when incompatible colours and backboards are chosen. Follow these steps to do so: Navigate to the admin of Sign Customiser for your store Click on "Customisers" in the home menu Click on the customiser you want to edit From the left-hand menu, go to Sign Components → Mountings. Create or click on an existing mounting option. While creating or editing a mounting in the admin backend, simply select the incompatible colours and backboards from their respective dropdown inputs with labels "Colour Exclusions" and "Backboard Exclusions" (cut-out metal customisers will see "Panel Exclusions" instead of "Backboard Exclusions").
Discounts
Create Shopify discounts for custom sign products
For most Shopify stores, scope an Amount off products discount to Sign Customiser Products or to a collection named after one of your customisers. Sign Customiser adds each new sign to the right collections during product creation, so eligible automatic discounts and discount codes work on the shopper's first attempt. Use the collections managed by Sign Customiser Do not build a smart collection from product type or tag rules for discount targeting. Shopify indexes those rules later, after the shopper may already have reached the cart or checkout.

Additional Options
AI Sign Designer
AI sign designer and working with forms for custom designs
AI Sign Designer Guide
The AI Sign Designer converts a customer image into a vector SVG outline for sign production. Customers upload a PNG, JPEG, WebP, SVG, or PDF. The AI makes a clean SVG file. Customers use this file immediately to configure and buy a sign. This is different from a custom design form submission. With AI Sign Designer, customers get a result that they can buy after processing. Processing can take a few minutes. Without it, or when credits run out and you have set a fallback form, customers send a request. You process this request manually later. Finding AI Sign Designer in the admin Open Customisers. Select your customiser. In the customiser menu, select Custom Designs. This item has an "AI Designer" badge. On a narrow screen, select Menu first. To test an upload yourself, open Manage > AI Design Files on Universal. On Shopify, open AI Design Files from the app menu. Use the AI Converter card. The customiser Overview page shows a promo card for eligible customisers. The card reads "AI Sign Designer - Turn any image into production-ready signs".
Set up the AI Sign Designer build screen and fallback form
Change the text customers see while AI Sign Designer builds a design, and send refused or failed designs to your fallback form.
Set up AI Sign Designer on a Material Length customiser

See how Free Monthly Credits and AI purchased credits work, which one Sign Customiser uses first, and how to check your balance and buy more.
Linking to an External Page for Custom Designs
You can add a link to an external page. Use the link instead of a custom form in the customiser. With the Link Only display, the link is at the top of the selections column.
How to Enable AI Sign Designer
Enable AI Sign Designer on an existing customiser, configure its fallback form and pricing, then test the customer experience.
Custom Design Screen
Change the instructions on the Custom Design screen
Change the main heading and step text shown beside a form on the customer-facing Custom tab, and find the right settings when you are currently editing the form itself.
Set the Custom Design Form as the Initial Screen
You can show a Custom Design Form as the initial screen of your customiser. The form then replaces the default sign visualiser.
Forms
Custom Design Forms
A Custom Design Form is a contact form built into Sign Customiser. Use it to collect custom design requests that the app cannot generate automatically. The form appears in the customiser: On desktop, it opens from the Custom tab. This is the default tab name. You can rename it. On mobile, it appears as a link below the selections. Customers can upload files, write messages, and use dropdowns, checkboxes and multiple-choice fields. They do not leave the page while they fill in the form. After they submit, they stay on the page unless you choose Redirect to a page (see Step 4). To quote customiser designs, use Quote Mode instead. For more information, read Quote Mode.
Add and Edit Custom Form Field Options
This guide explains how to add and edit fields in your custom form. Every form must contain a required Email field. New forms include this field. Go to the Sign Customiser Admin: Universal subscribers: Go to Home in your account. Shopify users: Navigate to Shopify admin → Apps → Sign Customiser. Click on Customisers in the menu. Select the customiser you want to edit. From the left-hand menu, go to Features → Forms. Click Add New Form if creating a new form, or select an existing form to edit. Product & Order Management
Managing products created by Sign Customiser
Order Management
Order fulfilment for in-house and outsourced production
Sign Customiser supports sign businesses that manufacture in-house, outsource production or use a mix of both. It captures the customer's design and passes the same specifications into the order and production handoff. Sign Customiser does not manufacture or ship the sign. You keep control of feasibility checks, supplier costs, approvals, production, delivery and installation.
Export orders as CSV via email
Export your Sign Customiser orders as a CSV spreadsheet delivered to your email, with preset or custom date ranges and full customisation details.
Supplier / Manufacturer Emails
Yes. You can use Sign Customiser when another company manufactures your signs. When a paid order is created, Sign Customiser can automatically send the order email to the supplier address configured for that customiser. The supplier receives an ordinary email and does not need a Sign Customiser account. You keep control of the customer, supplier relationship, approval process and delivery.
SVG, EPS and .AI files for manufacturing workflows
To speed up the manufacturing process, Sign Customiser can automatically generate an SVG file of the sign design for CNC machines and help speed up tracing the sign's letter layout. This SVG file will be automatically included in the order (available on supported platforms and through the API) and in the manufacturer's email generated for every order. You can also generate EPS and Illustrator-compatible PDF files for the same design. EPS opens in most cutting and routing software; the Illustrator-compatible PDF opens cleanly in Adobe Illustrator (it's saved with an.ai filename). Both are delivered through the same order attributes and manufacturer email as SVG, and can be turned on per customiser. Cut-out metal signs use the same files — the SVG carries the cut-path geometry for the metal panel, and EPS/Illustrator-compatible PDF are generated from it identically. No new file types or template variables are needed for cut-out workflows. This feature is included in all current plans: Seed, Growth and Ultimate. The older Starter, Standard and Launch plans do not include it. On these plans, the Generate SVG image of sign settings show Plan Upgrade Required. For detailed instructions on how to use SVG, EPS, and Illustrator-compatible PDF files in your manufacturing process please follow these guides. How to enable SVG, EPS, and Illustrator-compatible PDF files for manufacturing How to find the SVG file in the Shopify order How to include the SVG, EPS, and Illustrator-compatible PDF files in the manufacturing email
Update manufacturer email address
You can add one more email address by appending each email with a ',' character e.g. 'first@email.com,second@email.com' To change the manufacturer email address do the following: Navigate to the admin of Sign Customiser for your store Click on "Customisers" in the home menu Click on the customiser you wish to edit From the left-hand menu, go to Email Workflows → Manufacturer Email. Add the email under Receiver Email and click Save on the bottom right to save the changes.
How to include SVG, EPS, and Illustrator-compatible PDF files in manufacturer emails
To include SVG, EPS, or Illustrator-compatible PDF files in your supplier/manufacturer email please follow these instructions. Navigate to Sign Customiser admin on your store. Click on "Customisers" in the home menu Click on the customiser you wish to edit From the left-hand menu, go to Email Workflows → Manufacturer Email. In the template editor, use the variable picker to insert a download link for each file type you've enabled. The three variables are: svgPreviewLink — the SVG file URL epsPreviewLink — the EPS file URL aiPreviewLink — the Illustrator-compatible PDF (AI) file URL Wrap each variable in a link tag so it appears as a clickable download. The simplest pattern is an anchor ( <a> ) tag whose href points at the preview link variable, with visible text such as "Link" or "Download". Hit save at the bottom of the form. Only include the lines for the file types you've enabled in General Settings — variables for file types that aren't enabled will render as empty. Cut-out metal signs: the same svgPreviewLink, epsPreviewLink, and aiPreviewLink variables carry the cut-path file for cut-out customisers — no new template variables are needed. This is what the email template looks like once download links have been added. Here is an example of the Manufacturer email with a SVG download link. EPS and AI links appear in the same way when those formats are enabled.
How to enable/disable SVG, EPS, and Illustrator-compatible PDF files for manufacturing
To enable/disable SVG, EPS, and Illustrator-compatible PDF files for manufacturing purposes please follow these instructions. Navigate to Sign Customiser admin on your store. Click on "Customisers" in the home menu Click on the customiser you wish to edit From the left-hand menu, go to Settings → General Settings. Scroll down to the Generate SVG image of sign section. You'll see three options: SVG Image — the scalable vector file used for CNC machines and letter tracing. EPS Image — opens in most cutting, routing, and plotting software. AI Image — an Illustrator-compatible PDF saved with an.ai filename that opens cleanly in Adobe Illustrator. Set any of these to Yes to enable the file type for this customiser. Hit save at the bottom of the form. EPS and AI files are converted from the generated SVG on our server, so turning on EPS or AI will also keep SVG generation enabled automatically.
How to find the SVG, EPS, .AI file in the Shopify
whenever a sign is ordered, you can access the order in Shopify admin page and download the SVG file by clicking on the _svg: "Link". To use this feature, you must have already enabled the SVG Files for manufacturing.
Shopify Product Management
Hide Custom Sign Products from Your Storefront
Every time a user adds a custom sign to the cart, our app creates the sign as a "product" in your Shopify backend. This is necessary for handling and purchasing the sign. However, since these are customised products, you may wish to hide them from being displayed on your storefront. There are two ways to do this — you only need to pick one: Option 1 (recommended): Unlist your custom sign products. A single setting in Sign Customiser hides every new custom sign from your storefront automatically. No further work required. Option 2: Keep products as "Active" and hide them through your Shopify storefront settings. This involves a few configuration steps in Shopify.
Automatically deleting generated products
The products generated by the Sign Customiser are necessary for your users to purchase their customised products. Therefore, it is not possible to use Sign Customiser without generating products. However, we understand that this can be frustrating when viewing your product list. In this article, we will guide you on how to automatically delete these products using an app named Mechanic. Please note that: The Mechanic app is separate from the Sign Customiser and requires a monthly fee of $9 to use. Please be aware that the Mechanic app performs the action of deleting your products, and therefore, you use it at your own risk. We cannot be held responsible if the app deletes any wanted products
Retrieve generated sign products not purchased
Every generated sign product carries the sign-customiser-generated tag. Purchased products also carry the npc_ordered tag. Combine those tags in Shopify's product search to find generated products that have not been purchased. Log in to your Shopify admin and open Products. Open the product search or filter field. Enter tag:sign-customiser-generated NOT tag:npc_ordered. Shopify now lists generated sign products that do not have the purchased-product tag. Filter one customiser Add its sc-customiser-ID tag to the search. You can also open the managed collection titled with that customiser's name before reviewing products. Do not filter only on product type Custom Neon. That type now identifies neon signs only. Acrylic, metal, stencil, wood, aluminium, braille, wood-frame and lightbox products use their own category-specific types.
How your products are created
Sign Customiser makes a product each time a customer designs a sign and adds it to the cart.
How SEO is treated for Custom Signs in Shopify
The custom signs created by our app are automatically hidden from search engines. We apply standard Shopify properties to ensure these products are excluded from SEO indexing. These includes settings recommended in the following guide: Create A Hidden Product in Shopify. These settings are applied automatically when a product is created by our app, and no additional action is required on your end.
Change Shopify Sale Channel for Products
You can change the sales channel that a product generated by a sign customiser is assigned to by following these steps. Navigate to the admin of Sign Customiser for your Shopify store. From the home page, click Tools & Settings. Click Integrations and Webhooks. Click on the Shopify integration. Click Edit Integration in the top right corner. Select the Sales Channel you wish to automatically publish to by clicking on the Publication select option and choosing one. Click Save in the modal.
Autogenerate SKU for sign products in Shopify?
Our app generates a new product in Shopify for every custom sign added to the cart by a customer. While the app does not assign SKUs automatically, you can implement an automatic SKU generation system using a third-party app. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you set this up.
Free Shipping for Custom Products in Shopify
If you are looking to provide free shipping for your custom sign products generated by our app, you might face challenges with Shopify's default settings. Shopify does not currently support assigning Shipping Profiles to product types or collections—only to specific products. This limitation can complicate setting up free shipping for products created by our customiser. While "free shipping discounts" exist in Shopify, they do not offer conditional rules to restrict the discount to specific product types or collections. How to identify generated sign products Prefer the Sign Customiser Products collection or the sign-customiser-generated tag. To target one customiser, use its collection or the sc-customiser-ID tag. Product type is only a fallback: neon remains Custom Neon, while other categories use Custom Acrylic Sign, Custom Metal Sign, Custom Cut-out Metal Sign, Custom Stencil, Custom Wooden Sign, Custom Aluminium Sign, Custom Braille Sign, Custom Wood Frame Sign and Custom Lightbox.
Universal App
Detailed docs on the universal application of Sign Customiser
Change the primary currency for the store in the universal app.
In the Universal app, you can change the base currency of all customisers that belong to your Store. This feature is only available on our Universal app version. The Shopify version automatically uses the currency that your Shopify store sells in as its base currency.
How to create an API key
API keys let another service use the public API of one Store. Older instructions call them API tokens. They are the same credential. Create a separate key for each integration. Give each key only the access that the integration needs. Then you can identify each key and revoke one key without affecting another integration.
Creating and managing multiple stores under one account
This feature is not currently supported for Shopify customers. Want to copy a customiser between stores? That's a separate service our support team runs for you, and it works on Shopify too — see Copy a customiser to another store you own. Sign Customiser supports multiple stores under a single company account, allowing you to manage different websites, platforms, or brands independently. Each store keeps its own configuration, customisers, and integration settings.
How to invite additional users
Shopify customers cannot invite additional users at this time Sign Customiser allows you to collaborate with team members by inviting them to your company account. Invited users can help manage your stores, configure customisers, and handle various administrative tasks. The invitation process ensures new team members are properly connected to your company account from the start.
How to get your Integration ID
The Integration ID is needed for embedding Sign Customiser on your website. This is how we know which e-commerce backend we should create your products in. To find your Integration ID: Log in to Sign Customiser. Open the Integrations page. Universal: in the left sidebar, under Integrate, click Integrations. Shopify: from the home page, click Tools & Settings, then Integrations and Webhooks. Click on your integration. Underneath its title, you will see a badge with ID: 123 — copy the number after "ID:". Now in your HTML, use that number where it says integration-id="": Note: the above example omitted other required attributes for brevity, ensure you have all of the required attributes noted in your Integrations Setup Instructions.
Why don't I see any orders?
If you cannot see your orders in Universal Sign Customiser, examine the setup of your integration. The cause is different for each platform.
Pricing and Sizing Models
Learn all about our unique models that power the pricing and sizing measurements designed for letter signs and every other sign type.
Simple Letter Model
Getting Started with the Simple Letter Model
The Simple Letter Model is ideal for merchants who sell signs with standardised width or height and straightforward pricing (e.g., 40 cm, 60cm, 80 cm). It lets you easily set up pricing based on size, character count, and number of lines. If you need more flexibility for pricing and dynamic size scaling, see the Advanced Letter Model.
Sizes – Simple Letter Model
Sizes in the Simple Letter Model are based on your size strategy: fixed width or fixed height combined with the maximum characters per line and maximum number of lines allowed for each size.
Pricing - Simple Letter Model
Before configuring pricing, make sure you have already set up your Sizes.
Fonts - Simple Model
Before configuring fonts, make sure you have already set up your Pricing and Sizes sections. Fonts in the Simple Letter Model rely on these settings to accurately calculate sign dimensions and pricing.
Request Essential Information – Simple Letter Model
This guide explains how to collect the information you need from your manufacturer to set up the Simple Letter Model customiser.
Advanced Letter Model
Getting Started with the Advanced Model
The Letter Model is designed for merchants who need flexible pricing and scalable sign dimensions. Unlike the Simple Letter Model, which uses predefined sizes, the Advanced Letter Model calculates the sign's dimensions and price dynamically based on the selected font, text, and size. This guide will walk you through the main steps required to create a functional Advanced Letter Model customiser, from collecting information from your supplier to configuring Pricing, Sizes and Fonts.
Sizing - Advanced model
This guide explains how to configure Sizes for the Advanced letter Model. Sizes in this model are based on a Scale Multiplier that dynamically adjusts the sign's dimensions according to the selected font. This section covers everything you need to configure within the Sizes settings in the Advanced Letter Model.
Pricing - Advanced letter model
Pricing in the Advanced Letter Model allows you to combine multiple calculations to create a pricing structure that reflects your real production costs. Unlike fixed-size pricing, this model calculates costs based on the actual material length required to produce each letter. The system traces the precise outlines of every character and multiplies them by your material rate, resulting in highly accurate pricing. This guide explains how to configure the Pricing settings for the Advanced Letter Model. Works with AI Sign Designer The Advanced Letter Model supports AI Sign Designer for neon signs and channel letter signs (Acrylic and Metal). AI-generated SVG designs are measured using the same material length calculations as typed text — the system traces every path in the converted SVG and prices it by your cost per centimetre. To enable AI Sign Designer on a Material Length customiser, see the AI Sign Designer Guide.
Fonts - Advanced Model
This guide explains how to configure fonts for the Advanced Letter Model, assign pricing models, adjust font spacing, and test measurement accuracy.
Letter Material Cost
Letter Material Cost is a pricing method used in the Advanced Letter Model. It calculates the price of letters based on the actual amount of material required to produce them. Key Benefits: Accurate pricing: Charge based on the actual material used. Font-sensitive pricing: Complex fonts use more material and thus cost more. Flexible pricing tiers: Set different material costs for different sign dimensions. Real-time calculations: Prices update as customers change their text or fonts. AI Sign Designer compatible: The same calculation can be used for AI-generated SVG designs.
Understanding Font Measurements in the Advanced Letter Model
This guide explains how and what you need to consider when setting the minimum font size in the Advanced Letter model.
Manually calculate shipping cost value
To do these calculations yourself, first must have your shipping cost matrix provided to you by your supplier/freight company. The formula to calculate the shipping cost per centimeter squared based on a defined cost per measurement is as follows. For the current size range, you are editing the price formula; you should match the range limit value with the step in your shipping cost matrix and retrieve the cost price value. E.g. You have set a max size range that was 75cm, and in the shipping cost matrix, you have found the cost price for 75cm by 75cm to be a value of $98.00 Dimensions:75cm by 75cm Price:$98.00 Calculation:98 / (75*75) = $0.017 per centimeter~ number was rounded to 3 decimals
Determine Material Cost from Average Cost per Letter
If your supplier provides an average cost per letter instead of a material cost per centimetre or inch, you can use the Advanced Letter Model to determine an appropriate Letter Material Cost. This guide will show you how to calculate the average material length used by a font and use this information to determine the material cost per centimetre.

Test Sign Measurement Accuracy
We have provided a way to test the measurement accuracy of your fonts using our app. This will allow you to manually measure the width, height and material length of any text combination with any font of your choosing.
Frame Fit Model
Sizing - Frame Fit Model
The frame (outer edges of a sign) is the primary factor for a sizing. “Outer edges” refers to the full boundary or perimeter of your sign. In other words, it’s the total width and height measured from the very leftmost point to the rightmost point and from the topmost point to the bottommost point of the finished sign. By always measuring from the outermost tips of a sign, you’ll get a clear and consistent measurement for quoting, production, and installation. Cut-out metal signs also use Frame Fit sizing. For Mode B (AI silhouette) cut-outs, the bounding box of the AI-generated shape drives the size.
Pricing - Frame Fit model
Pricing in the framefit model is very similar to the advanced letter model pricing. In frame fit, a pricing formula is not tied to a font; you can only have one pricing formula per frame fit customiser. The frame (outer edges of a sign) is the only factor that is considered when applying a price calculation. Cut-out metal signs use the same Frame Fit area pricing — the panel dimensions drive the calculation.
Frame Fit Model
Frame Fit lets customers choose a sign width and height. A size boundary sets the sign's base price. You can add component and mounting charges. A separate parcel calculation can add a shipping charge or send weight to Shopify.
Fixed Height Model (Legacy)
Introduction to the Fixed Height Model
A fixed height model is a collection of sizes, all of which are set to a nominated height per line measured in centimeters. e.g. Small at 10cm, Medium at 20cm and large at 30cm. For each size, the following parameters can be set The height The minimum amount of characters. The maximum amount of characters (optional) The number of lines of text allowed. The height for a single-line sign will always be the nominated height no matter the character count. However, the overall height for a multiline sign can vary and will be determined by The nominated height per line The natural height of the characters The distance between lines based on the font Here's a visual example with the nominated height set to 50cm. The tallest line, the capital letter M, will take on this number. The smaller letter m is shorter than capital letter M, therefore it is only a fraction of the nominated height - 37.84cm. In a multiline scenario, all lines will naturally scale from the tallest line. Combined with the space between the lines, calculated by the app to be 32.49cm brings the total to 120.33cm. This method allows the app to produce measurements in the most accurate way possible while maintaining a fixed height per line.
Pricing - Fixed Height Model
With a fixed height model, the price of a neon sign is determined by its size, number of characters, number of lines, and font. Here are two examples to illustrate how pricing is calculated.

How to reduce TTF font file size
Large font file size can cause problems with page loading speed since you have dozens of fonts on your Sign Customiser page. In this guide, we will show you how to reduce TTF font file size. The principle of this is to remove unnecessary glyphs in the fonts. Follow these steps Visit the Webfont Generator tool from FontSquirrel and click on the Upload Fonts button to upload the fonts you want to reduce in size. You can upload up to 12 fonts simultaneously. Once uploaded, the fonts will appear with information about their names, type, number of glyphs, and size. Choose the EXPERT... option, which will display a list of additional options. Select the following settings: - Font Formats: TrueFont (This option allows you to choose the output font type. We recommend selecting TrueFont since it is the only font type accepted by Sign Customiser.) - Subsetting: Custom Subsetting... - Character Type: Lowercase, Uppercase, Numbers, Punctuation (You can choose additional character types, but note that this will increase the output font files.) - Use the Subset Preview option to preview the list of glyphs included in the output fonts. Link Base Price To Size Instead Of Font
When a sign has two or more fonts, the price of each font is added to the sign price. On Simple Letter customisers, this is the base price of each font. On Advanced Letter customisers, this is the start price of each font. The total price can be higher than you want. You can link this price to the sign size instead of to each font. Note: Use this setting only for signs that have more than one font. The steps are different for Simple Letter customisers and Advanced Letter customisers.

Font min heights and rounding measurements
This article applies to Advanced Model customisers only If you have the setting "No decimal" enabled for your customiser: while also having fonts with minimum heights set to decimal values you will encounter this warning: The "No decimal" setting tells our system to round any measurements that are displayed on your Customiser, meaning if we calculate that your sign height should be "10.30cm" we will round it down to "10cm" and display that to the customer. We then need to validate that 10cm value against your font min height of 10.16cm, causing a validation issue. For this reason merchants using the "No decimal" setting are advised to set their font min heights to whole values.
How to disable Cloudflare Proxy for Sign Customiser
If you're seeing errors when trying to connect Sign Customiser to your website, and your domain is protected by Cloudflare, it could be because Cloudflare's security features are blocking the connection. This is actually Cloudflare doing its job—protecting your site from automated requests. However, Sign Customiser needs to be able to connect automatically to work properly. The good news is you can easily fix this by creating a special rule that tells Cloudflare to allow Sign Customiser through. Don't worry—this won't affect your site's security for regular visitors.
How do I set a password if I signed up with Google?
You can sign in to the Sign Customiser Universal admin at web.signcustomiser.com with Google, or with your email address and password. If you created your account with Google, you can add a password to the same account. Google sign-in continues to work afterwards.
Why is add to cart blocked for some font characters?
A font can only draw the characters in its font file. A customer can type a character that the selected font cannot produce. What happens then depends on the pricing model: Advanced Letter blocks the design by default. Simple Letter and Frame Fit customisers (but not Lightbox) allow the design by default. The order is not marked. Fixed Height customisers always block the design. On a Lightbox customiser, unsupported characters in the text that a customer types always block add to cart. This depends on the font. A backtick, an accented letter, or a symbol can work in one font and be missing from another font.

Tracking events for ad conversions
A custom JavaScript event fires after a form submission or a successful inline Shopify cart addition. Use these events for ad tracking, CRM data, or storefront scripts. The three tracking events in the List of events section are not available to Starter, Standard, or Pro plan families. This restriction does not apply to ShareLink events. Note: Existing form:submitted webhook integrations continue to fire. For a new integration, read submissions from the quotes API. The API also returns submission history.
Send Google Ads click IDs to your CRM
Sign Customiser stores the Google Ads click IDs (gclid, gbraid, wbraid) of each form submission. Read them from the quotes API, a webhook, merchant emails or JavaScript events, then report offline conversions back to Google Ads.
