Sign Customiser

How to share your Sign Customiser hosted page link in an Etsy listing description so buyers can design their sign before ordering.

Last updated:

Etsy doesn’t allow embedded customisers inside a listing. The way to give buyers a real-time design experience is to point them to your hosted customiser link from the listing description, then have them return to Etsy with their design details to place the order.

Before you start

You need three things in place:

  1. A customiser created for the Etsy product.

  2. Etsy Mode turned on for that customiser.

  3. Hosted Pages enabled in Tools & Settings.

If any of those aren’t done yet, the link won’t work. See Hosted Customisers for setup steps.

  1. In the Sign Customiser admin, open Tools & SettingsHosted Page.

  2. Find your customiser under Compatible Customisers.

  3. Copy the URL shown next to the customiser name. It will look like https://app.signcustomiser.com/hosted/123.

  1. Sign in to Etsy and open Shop ManagerListings.

  2. Open the listing you want the customiser link on, or click Add a listing.

  3. Scroll to the Description field.

  4. Paste your hosted customiser link near the top of the description, on its own line, with a short call to action so buyers know to click it. For example:

    Design your sign first:

    https://app.signcustomiser.com/hosted/123

Use the link above to choose your text, font, colour and size. When you’re happy, copy the design summary and return to this listing to check out.

  5. Click Publish (or Save if you’re editing a live listing).

Etsy truncates long descriptions on mobile and shows a “Read more” link. Most buyers never tap it. Putting your hosted link in the first two or three lines means more buyers actually open the customiser before deciding to buy.

What buyers see

  1. They click your hosted link from the Etsy listing.

  2. They design their sign in the customiser.

  3. When they’re done, they see a summary screen with the design details (text, font, colour, size, and the suggested price if you’ve enabled Show price).

  4. They copy the summary and click Return to Etsy, which sends them back to the listing URL you set in Etsy Mode.

  5. They paste the summary into the personalisation or buyer note field on Etsy and check out.

Important

Make sure the Etsy Listing URL in your Etsy Mode settings points at the same listing the buyer started on. If you have multiple listings, each customiser only sends buyers back to one URL.

Troubleshooting

The link shows a 404. Hosted Pages or Etsy Mode isn’t enabled on the customiser. Open the customiser, turn on Etsy Mode, then go to Tools & Settings → Hosted Page and enable hosting.

The link is too long for the description. The hosted URL is short by design (around 40 characters). If you want something even shorter, you can wrap it with a URL shortener like Bitly, but Etsy buyers generally trust the full link more.

Buyers aren’t pasting the design details into Etsy. Add a one-line instruction next to the link, for example: “After designing, paste the summary into the personalisation box at checkout.”
