Connect an AI agent to Sign Customiser
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code to your Store, in the Shopify app or at web.signcustomiser.com.
Last updated:
You can connect an AI agent to your Store. Examples of AI agents are Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code. The agent can set up customisers and change options and pricing. It can also find orders, quotes and revenue summaries.
The agent connects through the Sign Customiser MCP server. You do not need an API key.
The sign-in steps are different for the Shopify app and for web.signcustomiser.com. Use the section for your platform.
Before you start
-
Use an AI agent that can connect to a remote MCP server, for example Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code.
-
On Shopify, only the store owner can generate a connection code.
-
A connection has access to one Store only. To connect a second Store, connect the agent again. Then select the other Store.
Shopify app
You do not need a web.signcustomiser.com account or password. You sign in with a connection code from the Shopify app.
-
In your Shopify admin, open the Sign Customiser app.
-
On the home page, select See the setup steps on the AI agent card. You can also select Tools & Settings, then MCP server.
-
Select Onboard your agent to Sign Customiser. This copies the setup prompt.
-
Paste the prompt into the chat box of your agent and send it.
-
The agent adds the Sign Customiser connection. Then it opens the Enter your connection code screen in your browser.
-
Return to the MCP server page in the Shopify app. Select Generate connection code.
-
Type the code in the Connection code field. Then select Continue.
-
Make sure that the correct Store shows. If you have more than one Store, select it. Select the permissions. Then select Approve.
The code works one time. It expires after 10 minutes. Generate the code when the Enter your connection code screen is open.
web.signcustomiser.com
-
Sign in at web.signcustomiser.com.
-
In the sidebar, select MCP Server.
-
Select Onboard your agent to Sign Customiser. This copies the setup prompt.
-
Paste the prompt into the chat box of your agent and send it.
-
The agent adds the Sign Customiser connection. Then it opens a Sign Customiser screen in your browser.
-
If you are signed in to web.signcustomiser.com in the same browser, the permissions screen opens. Go to step 8.
-
If the Enter your connection code screen opens, return to the MCP server page. Select Generate connection code. Type the code in the Connection code field. Then select Continue.
-
Make sure that the correct Store shows. If you have more than one Store, select it. Select the permissions. Then select Approve.
Select the permissions
All the permissions are selected when the screen opens. Clear each permission that you do not want to give the agent.
If the agent must only read data, keep only the permissions that start with View. For example, keep View store details, View customisers, View pricing, View orders, View quotes and View analytics. If the agent must also make changes, keep Manage customisers or Manage pricing too.
The connection code only signs you in. The agent gets access only when you select Approve.
The screen can show Unverified app. This shows when the agent registered itself. Continue only if you started this connection.
Connect the agent yourself
You can also add the connection in your agent yourself. Use this server URL:
https://mcp.signcustomiser.com
For the steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and other agents, refer to the setup guide. Then do the sign-in steps for your platform.
See or remove a connected agent
Go to Tools & Settings > MCP server. On web.signcustomiser.com, you can also select MCP Server in the sidebar. The Connected agents list shows each agent, who approved it, and its permissions.
To remove an agent, select the revoke button for that agent. Then select Revoke. The agent loses access immediately.
Troubleshooting
-
The agent asks for an API key. This agent cannot sign in to an MCP server with a browser. Sign Customiser does not accept API keys for this connection. Use a different agent.
-
“That code is not valid. Generate a new one in your admin.” The code was used or it expired, or you generated a newer code. You possibly typed it incorrectly. Generate a new code and type it again.
-
“Only the store owner can generate a connection code.” On Shopify, ask the store owner to generate the code.
-
The agent reports a missing permission. You did not approve that permission. The error shows a short name, for example
pricing:writefor Manage pricing. Connect the agent again and approve the permission.
